Workshop with Jerusha Rhodes

In the workshop, we will discuss Associate Professor Jerusha Rhodes' approach to Muslim feminist comparative theology within the hermeneutics of tradition. The focus will be on hermeneutical challenges, epistemic injustice and genuine dialogue.

Rhodes will introduce her approach. Afterwards, there will be a discussion based on her work. Therefore, we ask you to read two chapters from her book Divine Words, Female Voices: Muslim Explorations in Comparative Feminist Theology (Oxford University Press, 2018). The text will be sent to participants in advance.

Jerusha T. Rhodes is Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at the Union Theological Seminary in New York. In her first book, she examined the Qur’anic discourse on religious otherness and challenged the notion that the Qur’an establishes clear and static religious boundaries.

The workshop is in cooperation with the Paderborn Early-Career Research Group on Comparative Islamic Theology (PIIT/ ZeKK).
