The 2023 Gingko Interfaith Fellowship Retreat was a joint project between the British Charity Gingko and the International Center for Comparative Theology and Social Issues at the University of Bonn. The theme of the 2023 Retreat was ‘Political Christology in Late Antiquity and in the Qur’an.’ It took place at Kardinal Schulte Haus Bensberg from 28-31 August and was attended by an international and interreligious group of scholarship holders, mainly from the UK, Egypt, and Germany. The seminar explored the political dimension of Christological tenets in both Antiquity and contemporary approaches. First, this helped to gain a better understanding of the Qur’an and its Late Antique environment. The participants discussed how the Qur’an is engaged in debates evolving around the imperial theology of the Byzantine empire. Second, the course addressed the question of the systematic relevance of contemporary Christology in interreligious encounters. The participants addressed changes and developments within modern Systematic Theology and ask how they relate to the Qur’anic discourses. Third, Muslim perspectives of Christ, the atonement and crucifixion were explored. The Retreat was followed by the full-day symposium “The Religious Other(s)” in cooperation with the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum Aachen. The participants reflected on the role of art in interreligious encounter in a workshop that was open to the public. This was preceded by a rich discussion with writer Navid Kermani who read from his book “Ungläubiges Staunen”.

Was ist Liebe? Wie funktioniert sie? Was ist Schönheit? Diese Fragen wurden bei der ersten Annemarie-Schimmel-Lecture verhandelt. Der Philosophieprofessor und jordanische Prinz Ghazi bin Muhammad führte an drei aufeinanderfolgenden Tagen das Thema aus – am ersten Abend im Bonner Münster und bei zwei weiteren Veranstaltungen im Festsaal der Universität Bonn. Klaus von Stosch (University of Bonn) speaks about The History of Comparative Theology on Christian-Muslim Relations in the Conference Defining Islamic Comparative Theology.

From 2nd-4th December 2022, the international conference "Defining Islamic Comparative Theology" took place in Paderborn. It was organized jointly by the Paderborn Institute for Islamic Theology (PIIT) and the Center for Comparative Theology and Cultural Studies (ZeKK). The conference aimed to be the first step to programmatically and conceptually explore the possibility of a genuinely Islamic Comparative Theology.

Wie die drei großen Schriftreligionen mit ihren Heiligen Schriften in der Praxis umgehen, zeigt viel von der Wertschätzung und Gestaltungskraft, die sie ihnen zumessen. Auf der interreligiösen Tagung wurden drei konkrete Praxisfelder genauer untersucht: 1) Praktiken individueller Schriftfrömmigkeit, 2) liturgische Einbettungspraxis der Heiligen Schriften, 3) Schriftauslegungspraxis im Gottesdienst. Dazu waren Forschende aus Judentum, Christentum und Islam eingeladen, welche die genannten Praxisfelder in ihrer gegenwärtigen Gestalt untersuchen.

Die Theologische Fakultät Paderborn war Gastgeberin des jährlich stattfindenden International Meeting on Comparative Theology.

Christliche und islamische Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus Theologie, Religionswissenschaften und Soziologie haben vom 17. bis 18. Juni an der Theologischen Fakultät Paderborn zum Thema „Religion and Health“ getagt. Dabei standen von der Covid-Pandemie provozierte Fragen nach dem Verhältnis von medizinisch und theologisch informierter Vernunft ebenso zur Debatte wie die Frage nach konstruktiven Beiträgen von Religionen zu medizinischen Fragen.
