PD Dr. Maike Maria Domsel has been awarded the GINGKO Research Grant for her project “Compassion as a Strategy Against Polarization in School Crisis Pedagogy.” In collaboration with Prof. Dr. Mevlida Mešanović and Dr. Şenol Yağdı, she is developing interreligiously grounded teaching concepts that seek to strengthen compassion as a pedagogical countermeasure to polarization and binary thinking in school crisis situations.
The project aims to translate the ethical-theological concept of compassion understood as active co-suffering from Christian and Islamic perspectives into concrete teaching and learning materials. These materials are designed to foster resilience, perspective-taking, and dialogical competence among students. A particular focus lies on teacher training and the development of digital support platforms.
The project is coordinated by the CTSI at the University of Bonn. An initial publication is planned following the international conference “Transformative Learning in Times of Crisis” in October 2025.
