Completed Project

Cooperation between the Comparative Theology Study Programmes of Qom and Paderborn (DAAD)

From 2018 to 2021, the Programme “Subject-Related Partnerships with Institutions of Higher Education in Developing Countries” of the DAAD has supported, with funds of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the common work of the University of Paderborn and the University of Religions and Denominations (URD).

For several years now, there have been well-established contacts to the URD, both in research and in academic exchange. In this framework, students get to know other religions from the point of view of their own theological stance. In order to discuss questions and discourses that are highly relevant in German theology, teachers and students have been travelling from Paderborn to Iran and participated there in crash courses. Likewise, a course on theology of the Shia was given in Paderborn once a year. In the times of the Covid Pandemic, a digital exchange took place instead.

The project’s objective is to further develop the contents of the Study Programmes, and to create teaching/learning materials that can be employed in interreligious dialogue. In this way, cooperation shall be further established, and a sustainable contribution shall be made towards a better mutual understanding. Subsequent to this project, the learning materials involved shall be published in Persian.
